" Fr. Giacomo Zoboli, nel palazzo del Signore di Modena "  (Fr. Giacomo Zoboli, in the palace of the Lord of Modena)

The palace of the Lord of Modena was Palazzo Petroni in Piazza del Gesù (renamed Palazzo Cenci Bolognetti from 1771 - the date of Alessandro Petroni's death), residence of the ambassador to Rome of the Duchy of Modena and Reggio, where the painter lived at least from 1718, as evidenced by his registration with the Archconfraternity (the Este ambassador resided in the palace in Piazza del Gesù from 1717) and until 1735 (Historical Archive of the Vicariate of Rome, Parish of San Marco al Campidoglio, Stati delle Anime, vol. 7-9). The painter's Roman residence between 1712 and 1718 is not documented, while his workshop, at least from 1727, was in Palazzo Venezia, hosted by Cardinal Angelo Maria Querini.
From 1738 to 1760 he lived and worked (on the second floor) in the Palazzo Farnese (Historical Archives of the Vicariate of Rome, Parish of Santa Caterina della Rota, Stati delle Anime, f. 10, vol. 7-9; Oliver Michel, L'accademia, in AA. VV. Le Palais Farnese, Ecole Francaise de Rome, Rome 1981, pp. 567-609), at the time owned by the Bourbons of Naples: the privilege had been granted to him by the king of Naples Charles of Bourbon, at the request of Cardinal Neri Maria Corsini (1685-1770), nephew of Pope Clement XII.
In 1760, having ceased his activity as a painter, he moved to the Savelli Orsini palace on Via Monte Savello, in the block of the Teatro Marcello, within the territory of the then parish of San Nicola in Carcere. In the 18th century, the territory of the parish of San Nicola bordered to the north by the parishes of San Marco al Campidoglio and Sant'Angelo in Pescheria, to the west by the Tiber River, to the south by Santa Maria in Cosmedin, and to the east by the Roman Forum. The archive of the former parish of San Nicola in Carcere, preserved in the Historical Archives of the Vicariate of Rome, contains a gap regarding the Stati delle Anime relating to the second half of the 18th century. This gap was already present in the Vatican Secret Archives, before the parish collection was transferred to the Vicariate Archives. Therefore, it is not possible to document who, besides the painter, may have lived in the house on Via Monte Savello in Rome. Zoboli was hosted in the Savelli Orsini Palace in his final years (1760-1767), when he was no longer painting, by order of Cardinal Domenico Orsini of Aragon (1719-1789), 15th Duke of Gravina from 1734 to 1744, who from 1759 was Grandee of Spain and Plenipotentiary Minister of King Charles III of Bourbon to the Holy See. Cardinal Orsini had met Zoboli at the Farnese Palace, when Charles of Bourbon was still King of Naples and Sicily and therefore owner of the Farnese Palace.
